RUNNING COSTS
ELECTRIC POWER
In summer months the solar panels provide a significant quantity of your electricity. In the winter you will need to run the engine for approx. 1 to 2 hours a day (approx. £1 an hour) to charge the batteries. If you have a mooring with shore power then you will pay for an electric hook-up.
HEATING
Usually one 25kg bag of coal (approx. £11) lasts for a week in very cold winter weather. A bag can last twice as long when the winter weather is less harsh.
Usage of wood and kindling depends upon your needs and the temperature you want boat to be. A bag of kiln dried hardwood can be bought for £5 and you might use 1 or 2 a week if you want to really be very toasty. A bag of kindling can be purchased cheaply or you can just collect a few dry twigs on your way back home. The main problem you'll encounter is being too hot!!
GAS
1 x 13kg propane gas bottle (approx. £23) lasts for 5 weeks with cooking and hot water for baths and showers for 2 people.
